Keratin vs nanoplastia vs hair botox: which should you choose?

Keratin, nanoplastia or hair botox? Which smoothing treatment suits which hair, what the appointment in Bathgate involves and what decides the price.

Smooth, glossy hair after a smoothing treatment — Hair Majesty, Bathgate

Keratin vs nanoplastia vs hair botox is the comparison I am asked about most often at Hair Majesty in Bathgate. All three treatments smooth the hair, but to different degrees, for different hair and with different trade-offs. Here is how I explain it in the chair.

Three treatments, three different jobs

Picture them on a line, from the strongest smoothing to the gentlest repair.

  • Keratin smooths the most. If you want hair that dries sleek on its own with far less frizz, this is usually the one. Your natural wave is noticeably relaxed.
  • Nanoplastia combines smoothing with nourishing the hair. How much it relaxes the curl depends on your hair and the product, so I do not promise that blind; I assess it at the consultation.
  • Hair botox (a trade name — nothing to do with injections; it is a conditioning treatment) repairs without changing the curl. Waves and curls stay as they are; what changes is moisture, softness and shine. It is a conditioning treatment, not a straightening one.

None of them is better in itself. Each is better for a particular head of hair and a particular expectation.

Keratin vs nanoplastia vs hair botox: which hair suits which

At the consultation I look at three things: how much the hair frizzes, how damaged it is, and what you actually want to see in the mirror. What follows is a general direction, not a decision.

  • Thick, strongly curly or very frizzy hair that you straighten every day usually points to keratin: a visibly smoother result and a shorter morning routine.
  • Lightly wavy hair that frizzes in damp weather but has a lovely natural shape more often suits nanoplastia, if you want smoothing and nourishment at the same time.
  • Hair weakened by lightening, dry and dull, with a curl you still like, is a case for botox. It will not change the shape, but it will improve the condition and the look.
  • Fine, delicate hair is where I am cautious about heavy smoothing, because too much weight flattens it.

If you wear extensions or have recently had your colour done, tell me at the start. I then check whether a treatment makes sense with extensions or after colour, and which one.

What the appointment looks like

A treatment appointment takes roughly 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the treatment and your hair. Hair Majesty is a one-chair studio, so for that time it is just you and me.

  1. Consultation. I look at your hair, ask about your colour history and tell you honestly what is achievable and which treatment makes sense.
  2. Plan and price. You know the exact cost and time before we begin, not after.
  3. The treatment itself: usually a clarifying wash, product application, development time, then drying and sealing. The exact sequence depends on the treatment.
  4. Aftercare. I show you what to wash with and what to avoid in the first few days so the result lasts as long as possible.

What it costs and how long it lasts

Price is set by hair length: to the shoulders, below the shoulders, to the waist or to the lower back. The bracket at each length reflects density, because thicker hair needs more product. Hair treatments at Hair Majesty start from £80, and the top of the price list is £300. The full breakdown for keratin, nanoplastia and botox is on the hair treatments price list.

On how long it lasts, I would rather be careful than optimistic. Smoothing results typically last a few months and fade gradually as they wash out; the hair does not suddenly go back to how it was. A lot depends on how often you wash, which shampoo you use and whether you lighten in the meantime. Botox, being a conditioning treatment, usually lasts less time than keratin and tends to be repeated more often. I will give you a realistic estimate once I have seen your hair in person.

Questions worth asking before you book

  • Can I have a treatment and colour together? It depends on the condition of your hair and on the order; we agree it at the consultation.
  • Will it ruin my curls? Keratin will relax them, nanoplastia may, botox will not. That is why the choice cannot be made blind.
  • Do I need to change my haircare? Usually yes, starting with your shampoo. I will show you what to look for.

If you are still unsure whether keratin, nanoplastia or botox is the one for you, send me a message or request an appointment in the calendar. I will look at your hair, tell you what makes sense and give you the price before we start. Bathgate is an easy trip from anywhere in West Lothian, and a consultation needs no preparation.

Frequently asked questions

  • Keratin or nanoplastia: which is better for frizzy hair?

For heavy frizz and thick, curly hair, keratin is usually the starting point because it smooths the most. If your hair mainly frizzes in damp weather and you want to nourish it at the same time, nanoplastia is more often the better fit. The final choice is made at the consultation, once the hair has been seen in person.

  • What is the difference between hair botox and keratin?

Hair botox repairs and hydrates without changing the curl, so waves and curls stay. Keratin smooths and visibly relaxes the curl, so it changes the shape of the hair. They are two different goals, not two versions of the same treatment.

  • How much does keratin, nanoplastia or hair botox cost in Bathgate?

Price is set by hair length, with a bracket at each length that reflects density. Hair treatments at Hair Majesty start from £80; the full breakdown is on the price list and I confirm the exact figure before we begin.

  • How long does a smoothing treatment last?

Usually a few months, fading gradually as it washes out. How often you wash, which shampoo you use and whether you lighten your hair in the meantime all matter, so I give a realistic estimate once I have seen your hair in person.
